This weekend: Celebrate Giraffes and Honor Dads

By NEW Zoo June 19, 2020

The NEW Zoo is “going virtual” this year with our World Giraffe Day celebration! Join us on social media this Friday, June 19th, to celebrate the world’s tallest mammals. The Zoo’s Facebook page (@NEWZooGB) will feature giraffe-related content every hour, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Through a series of videos and more, we’ll take you behind-the-scenes to meet our Animal Care staff, teach you all about giraffes, and provide some fun activities you can do at home. You can even chat with our zoo experts during a Facebook Live video at 1:00 p.m. Come prepared with your giraffe questions!

As giraffes are an endangered species that have experienced significant population declines in recent years, we’ll once again be fundraising to support conservation efforts of giraffes in the wild. You can donate now online at our Virtual World Giraffe Day event page:

In addition to celebrating giraffes this weekend, we are also honoring dads on Father’s Day! On Sunday, June 21st, all dads will receive free admission into the NEW Zoo. Stop by to see our alpaca dad, Inferno, with his new daughter who was born on May 11th. She inherited his dark red hair! You can also view trumpeter swan daddy, Abner, with his three adorable cygnets who hatched on May 30th.

Don’t forget that non-members should still pre-purchase tickets for your visit for one of three available time slots: 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. (of course, you do not need to purchase a Sunday advance ticket for Dad!) Tickets are available at newzoo.org/visit/buy-zoo-tickets. Your group members can arrive anytime during your three-hour slot. Zoo Members do not need to pre-reserve a time slot and can arrive anytime during the day.

The NEW Zoo is currently open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Regular admission fees are: Children under 3: free; Children 3 to 15 & Seniors 62+: $7; Adults: $10.The Adventure Park currently remains closed.
