The air is cooler, some kiddos have already started school and many others will be starting in a few days. Much of our favorite local produce is ready for us to enjoy now or prepare for enjoyment during the cold, dreary winter, allowing us to dream of warmer days ahead. Many of us are in crunch time trying to balance preparing for winter and trying to take advantage of the fleeting summer by fitting in just a little more family fun in while the weather is still t-shirt comfortable. One thing is for sure, September is a crazy, busy month for the majority of us. Macaroni Kid is no different and we’re here to help your family get your fun on.
Leading us into September is the Big Falls Corn Roast. Is there another more iconic sign of fall or a fonder memory than that of our kids’ first attempt with that first ripe, juicy, buttery ear of corn? Dipping the corn into the coffee can of sweet, melted butter, the combination of juices dripping down our chins? This is a don’t miss event for my family. We’ve been reminded to not miss the parade. If you have any pictures or memories you’d like to share, I’d sure love to see them.
The very next weekend is the Bear Creek Kraut Run. This event is near and dear to my heart. The proceeds from this event go towards Bear Creek Fire Department and First Responders. It’s the 10th Anniversary and promises to be tons of fun! Prizes for adults, face-painters, other giveaways, and children’s activities. There is still time to sign-up. Don’t forget about the kids run! All registered participants (12 and under) in the kid run are eligible for the bike raffle. The top winners in the ½-mile run will earn a free entry in the 5K next year. Macaroni Kid will be there helping families and friends cheer on their loved ones!
As September keeps flying by, before you know it, the weather is more unreliable, we’ve found our routine in the new school year and our minds start to turn to the upcoming holiday season. Now is the perfect time for Downtown Clintonville’s Fall Frenzy. There is fun and shopping to be had from one end of downtown to the other. Be sure to visit the Kids Zone, all of the vendors in the streets and those regular businesses that line Main St. Many will have special hours and sales just for the event. New this year: Do you have a prize-winning apple pie recipe? Register soon to enter it into Adelle’s Bluebird Cafe’s first-ever Apple Pie Contest! The forms can be dropped off at Adelle’s or the Clintonville Chamber of Commerce. No Boundaries Nutrition will be showcasing her new Optimal Living space by opening up to many other vendors, perfect for a little something for you or to get a head-start on the holiday season. Macaroni Kid will be in the Kid Zone. Be sure to stop by to play some games, do some crafts, relax and regroup.
Coming soon in September will be weekly “Meet the Publisher” opportunities. At least once a week, I’ll be packing up my mobile office and picking a local business, somewhere in my territory to “set-up shop” for a couple of hours. Watch the calendar, Facebook and Instagram for the time and place. This will be the best time to ask those face-to-face questions or just stop by to say hi. I’d love to meet you. It will also be a great time to check out that local business. See if they have something you need. See the shop with fresh eyes.
