Libraries opening in the Macaroni Kid Clintonville WI Area and 12 Books to Check Out

By Marie Vandenberg, Publisher/Editor Macaroni Kid Clintonville, WI July 13, 2020

One of my favorite past times is reading a book.  I like to read a little bit of everything.  For 10 weeks during the lock-down, Dolly Parton read books that have been featured in the Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library during a weekly series called Good Night with Dolly Parton.   It was a great bonding experience with my daughters.  We loved each one equally. And your family can enjoy listening to Dolly read to your little ones until August 31. There are bonus hints and tips on the website.  I hope your family enjoys them as much as my family does.

  • Coat of Many Colors- by Dolly Parton
  • The Little Engine that Could - Watty Piper
  • Llama Llama Red Pajama- Anna Dewdney
  • Max & the Tag-A-Long Moon - Floyd Cooper
  • There’s a Hole in the Log on the Bottom of the Lake - Loren Long
  • Last Stop on Market Street - Matt de la Peña
  • Violet the Pilot - Steve Breen
  • I am a Rainbow- Dolly Parton
  • Stand Tall Molly Lou Melon - Patty Lovell
  • Pass It On - Sophy Henn

Each and every one of these books offers a great message and helps the kids use their imagination.  As one author put it, he still remembers the way his mama read the books to him- the special cadence in her voice.  I know I remember my own mom reading to us and I hope my children will continue to remember how I read to them.  So, I hope you will join me as we take trips without ever leaving our living room (or your own favorite reading spot) and travel to a different place and time.  Find where our imagination will lead us.

During one of the virtual family nights with the College of Menominee Nation Library, my daughters and I were able to listen to two special stories about Berry Picking.  These two books have also become quick family favorites.  We read them before bed each night.

  • Nekēs-awēh-nawēnāemenaw Anōhkanak (Berry Picking) by Bill Penass, Sarah Skubitz, Margaret Snow, and Tillie Zhuckkahosee
  • The First Strawberries - A Cherokee Story Retold by Joseph Bruchac
