Father's Day and Selfie Day

By Marie Vandenberg, Publisher/Editor Macaroni Kid Clintonville, WI June 21, 2020

Today is National Selfie Day!  So, grab your phone and take some fun pictures!

There are a couple of options that you can do to celebrate this fun, unique day.

Are you and your friends the low-key leisurely type?  Grab the list and whoever is participating and work through the list while enjoying spending time with friends and family while checking out the sights.  This also works if you only have one car or driver.

Are you in need of some quality time with your significant other, but also want to see some friends- then maybe the double-date will work best for you.  You’ll need one car for each couple participating.  The concept is similar to the low-key leisurely one, but it’s a race and you get the added fun of determining a winner.  The first couple to finish gets to head back to a pre-determined location to look at the pictures and then when everyone else is done, enjoy dessert or coffee or something else you come up with.

Are you a group leader?  Do you need some mingling ideas?  Do you have several families that want to participate?  Then the group method may be best for you.  The groups can be divided however the leaders see fit: completely random, those who don’t know each other very well or just by family.

It is very important that the group meets before and after to go over the rules, safety precautions and to determine the winner.

Just a few quick hints before you head out:

  • Make sure you discuss and agree to the rules before you head out.  Do you want everyone in the group to be in every picture?  No selfies while driving, or crossing the street, etc.
  • Be sure to follow the current social distancing rules and don't put yourself or others at risk for a shot. This should allow for some additional creativity in the photos.
  • Allow time for the groups to strategize before heading out.
  • Make sure that you have a plan for the end of the hunt.  Are you going to just have a set time and place for everyone to meet or do you want to just do a group text when it’s time to meet up again?
  • If you have a set time to meet, are you going to award the winner to the group that gets the most selfies or are you going to assign a points system from the most simple to get to the most difficult?
  • A nice way to determine a prize would be the loser buys the winners’ dessert or the winner gets to pick the next date night, etc.

Have fun with this!  We would love to see what you all come up with!  Please tag us from your own pages using #MacKidClintonvilleWI #NationalSelfieDay
