A New Day Back-To-School Clothing Shop

FREE New Clothes for Clintonville School District Students

By Neely Goerlinger, The Community Connections Center July 1, 2021

**Article Update 7/13:  Each child will receive 1 pair of shoes and if there isn't a pair of shoes in the child's size, the child will receive a voucher to B&H Footwear.**

New clothing can be a huge expense for many families.  As the new school year begins, children and teens deserve to have the option of new, stylish clothing they love without worrying about budgets. With this, the Compassionate Connections Center Inc. is excited to announce the opening of the New Day Clothing Resource.   An innovative new department-store-style concept designed to provide high-quality clothing for Clintonville students to start the 2021-22 school year in style. The store was created in partnership with Plato’s Closet of Wausau, who supplied thousands of clothing pieces along with Jake’s Network of Hope and Specialized Products Ltd.

Beginning Friday, July 16th, the New Day Clothing Resource will be housed at the United Methodist Church. The store has options for all ages and genders and will be completely free of charge. As we want every member of the community to have a chance to receive high-quality clothing, each shopper is able to pick 7 shirts, 5 pants, 1 sweatshirt/jacket, 2 dresses (if available), 2 pairs of shoes, and 3 other miscellaneous items (if available) of their choosing with no other eligibility requirements than living within the Clintonville School District.  Although the store is primarily set up for back-to-school, both children and adults are welcome to shop through the plenty of options. The resource will continue through July 20th.

Both help from community volunteers and donations from members of the community made this resource fully possible. A horde of volunteers worked together to tackle the unpacking and sorting of the thousands of clothing items over the course of multiple weeks. Members of the community also came together in providing donations for the integrated “Hanger Drive,” which was essential to being able to display the clothes in such a way to bring the whole department-store-style to life. This resource would not have been possible without the help of the community, and the CCC is extremely grateful for all the help and support in the start up of this first-of-its-kind resource.

The store will be as supplies last. Although the resource’s initial open dates are set for the 16th-20th of July, the substantial amount of goods leave the possibility for an extended period or second open date. The Compassionate Connections Center is excited to present this new opportunity for the young residents of Clintonville. Project Coordinator Emily Swan is currently getting her degree at UW Stevens Point in Family and Consumer Sciences and Psychology and wishes to be an advocate for families in need after graduation.
