What are Boo Baskets? What do you need sponsors for? All your questions answered and more!

By Marie Vandenberg, Publisher/Editor Macaroni Kid Clintonville -Shawano - Oconto - Antigo September 21, 2022

We are actively looking for sponsors for our 2022 Boo Baskets! We had so much fun handing out Boo Baskets and seeing the photos of the happy kids with their baskets last year that we want to do it again!  And of course, we want it to be bigger and better than last year!

What Are Boo Baskets?

Boo Baskets are Halloween baskets, bags or buckets that are filled with goodies and sneakily delivered to friends and neighbors.  It’s a fun “positive mischief” activity for families to do together to spread good cheer throughout their neighborhoods.

Why We Need Sponsors

As you can imagine, filling 100 baskets and delivering them takes a lot of time, money, supplies, and vehicle fuel.  By having sponsors help us, we are able to make this fun activity affordable to a lot of families. The old saying “many hands make short work” certainly applies here. This is also a great way for our local families to get acquainted (or reacquainted) with our local businesses.

What We Do

First, we contact sponsors that make the Boo Baskets possible.  Once we have our sponsors finalized, we will start accepting sign-ups from families.  We will also start making all the marketing materials, social media, and flyers needed for each Boo Basket and business.  We will also start purchasing all items needed for the baskets and then we assemble all the baskets using the sponsors’ provided items, donations, and purchases.  Not all the baskets are identical. We strive to be as inclusive as possible so we have options for those recipients with allergies or other needs and our flyers are available in both English and Spanish.  Once all the baskets have been assembled and the families have signed up and claimed the baskets, we start delivering them.  We do post on Facebook when we are out delivering so families are expecting the baskets.  Basket delivery will begin October 23rd and we will deliver by town this year. We also make sure that we get plenty of photos.

What Do the Sponsors Need To Do

We are looking for businesses that want to sponsor the Boo Basket Fun. First, we need you to fill out our sponsor form. This will let us know which level of sponsorship you’re interested in. (If you aren't comfortable clicking and filling out the form, you can also send me an e-mail at mariev@macaronilkid.com).  Each sponsorship level will also have to provide a minimum of 100 promotional items.  It can be candy, swag, coupons, toys, or other goodies to go into the bags/ buckets.  We will also need a copy of your logo.  We want to be able to give credit where credit is due.  We will also need a few businesses to be willing to keep some pre-printed flyers on hand for families that would like to participate but don’t have a printer. (We will make sure you have the copies you need.) This is completely optional, but some sponsors want a little more publicity and we can absolutely help with that.  Just make a note in the sponsorship form and we can work with you.

I’m Not A Business- Can I Still Help?

We can absolutely accept help from anyone who would like to help with this project.  We will accept donations of goodies to go in the baskets, donations of baskets/buckets themselves, or help assemble the baskets.  Send me an e-mail (mariev@macaronikid.com) if this is something you are interested in.  Again, this is a huge, fun, rewarding project and many hands make short work.

What Do The Families Do

Each family signs up for a Boo Basket (Halloween Bucket or bag) filled with candy, swag, coupons, and other goodies from our sponsors (one basket per family). Each family that signs up, agrees to "Boo" one or two other families.  We'll also have flyers/coloring sheets printed to show that you already received a basket and to explain to your recipients in case they don't follow Macaroni KID Clintonville-Shawano-Oconto-Antigo. (*gasp!*). We also ask that you share on social media that you’ve “been boo’d”.  We’ll even give you the hashtag. (It’ll be on the flyer- don‘t worry- we won’t make you remember it all).  It's meant to spread happiness, fun, and a little positive mischief.  It's a lot of fun to watch the kids trying to giggle quietly as they "sneak" up a driveway to deliver a basket.  As we get closer, we'll have some ideas for you to create your own Boo Baskets.  You don't need to be "Boo'd" to pass it along, but we will help get you started.  We want to encourage families to work with their own budgets - no need to go crazy and we also ask that you try to shop local businesses and especially our sponsors for your goodies.

Do Families Need to Subscribe to Macaroni KID Clintonville - Shawano - Oconto - Antigo to Participate?

While we hope that families will want to subscribe to our free, weekly newsletter, we know that we’re not the right fit for everyone.  We want as many people as possible to participate in the 2022 Boo Baskets, so a subscription to the Macaroni KID newsletter is not required.

When Do Families Sign Up For a Boo Basket?

We need to secure enough sponsors to make sure we can pay for the Boo Baskets.  As soon as our sponsors are finalized, we will create a form for families to sign up.  We will update this article with the signup link.  We will also post in the weekly newsletter and on social media.  You'll want to make sure you're at least following our Facebook or Instagram accounts. If you don't have social media and you don't subscribe to our newsletter, then as soon as you start seeing the flyers at our sponsors, you'll want to come back here to sign up. Boo Basket Sign-ups are now open.  The form will remain open until all 100 baskets have been claimed!

I Still Have Questions That Weren't Answered Yet.

You can send me an e-mail at mariev@macaronikid.com or you can send me a message from Facebook (@mackkidclintonvillewi).  If you need a phone call or in-person meeting, we can schedule it using the other two methods. I will answer any questions you have.
