My kids will turn into screen zombies if I let them. It is hard to snap them out of it once they get it going. When I first heard of the Adventure Challenge: Kids Edition, I knew I had to check it out. A few days after it arrived we had a rainy "don't want to go anywhere" kind of day, so we broke it out! The kids had reached peak anticipation, so it was the perfect time!

There are 30 numbered adventures to choose from in the Adventure Challenge: Kids Edition. Parents can be surprised to find out what the adventures are, or they can plan ahead. Check out the parent key at the beginning of the book for a full supply list and sneak peek at all the challenges.

Using the parent key, I was able to plan ahead and run to the store to buy some supplies for a few of the challenges, including plastic cups, tinfoil, and balloons for future challenge adventures. I knew I wanted the kids to do "Snug as a Mug," so I bought some oil-based paint pens and white mugs (and some hot chocolate and marshmallows, of course).

Choosing your adventure can be done in a few ways.

  • You can use the parent key to choose an adventure.
  • Use the hints and icons and let the kids decide.
  • Have your child choose a random number or page.
  • Go in numerical order.
  • Find a random number chooser online.

My kids had so much fun letting their creativity flow and each came up with their own theme or idea. The giggles and excitement about their own creations, as well as their siblings' artwork, was one of those moments that parents live for.    No fighting... for over an hour.

Of course, they got the idea to drink some hot chocolate from their mugs... they had no idea I had already planned that for after we baked the mugs to set the ink!

I loved doing my "mom's mug" with them. It was great to have a peaceful afternoon with my three kids and a fun craft activity with minimal prep! We chose oversized mugs and they can't wait for cold weather so they can have some warm soup in their personalized mugs!

We ended our "challenge" by adding a printed picture to our book. Now we will always be able to look back and remember this fun day.
